But before i go into that, i’ll like to enlighten you my dear friend about something you probably don’t know or might know.. This is taken from my own experience ..

After my WAEC, i immediately opted in the ND program of the Abia State polytechnic, since it didn’t require Jamb to get in (because i had written Jamb twice but failed to get an admission into the university of my choice).. After my ND program and a 1 year industrial attachment. I was supposed to advance for HND but i discovered something..

I had a graduate friend who’s an HND holder that told me about the prejudice of HND to BSc graduates in Nigeria.. He complained and enlightened me how the Nigerian work force seemed to prefer BSc graduates to HND graduates.. He finally advised me either to go for a direct entry to the university or if i wished, i should seek a fresh admission into the university..

I had to do some serious findings and i got to discover that what my friend said was true..

I made my decision to reapply to the university and by the grace of God, this time i was offered an admission for my choice course.. I still had an advantage of having my ND at least as an added certificate.. So as an HND admission seeker or HND holder, considering direct entry to the university is very much ok..

Please don’t quote me wrong.. Nothing is wrong with being an HND holder or going for HND… It’s only that HND has some few limitations if you aim very higher with the certificate in Nigeria today and i’ll list them below..

limitations with (HND) Higher National Diploma to (BSc) Bachelor of Sciences..

  1. BSc holders are accepted for MSc admissions without PGD(Post graduate diploma). The only time in which a BSc holder is required for an extra qualification such as a PGD certificate is if him or her graduated with a 3rd class. 2. Administrative duties are usually assigned at work to BSc holders rather than practical field assignments which HND holders are mostly exposed to.
  3. HND holders are still limited to advancing beyond Grade level 14 in the Federal civil service..
  4. BSC graduate in education are usually considered for teaching without extra qualifications. Whereas, HND holders are expected to have in addition, PDGE – Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
