NYSC Skills Acquisition & Entrepreneurship Development (SAED)Review

The National Youth Service Corps Skills Acquisition & Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) is an empowerment program aimed at providing corps members with a skill set. This program usually starts in the second week of the orientation course.. Corps members will have the opportunity to choose from over 15 skill sets made available to them.

The NYSC SAED program is sponsored only by the Federal government at the orientation camp.. If a corper wishes to continue with his or her training, he or she would have to arrange with the SAED trainer..This goes with a payment of a small amount of money with has been subsidized by the federal government.

Some Available Empowerment Skills

Some empowering skills corps members can choose from are:

  • Photography & Cinematography
  • CCTV installation
  • Solar panel assembling and installation
  • Tailoring/fashion designing
  • Paint making
  • Bead Making
  • Leather works
  • Creative writing
  • 3D floors & Wallpaper making
  • Electrical works
  • Catering etc.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Skills Acquisition & Entrepreneurship Development program is intended to help corps members add value to themselves, giving them an extra advantage by acquiring skills that has the potential of fetching them extra cash during there service year and after. The SAED Department is governed by a Director and is made up of two divisions namely:

  • Skills Acquisition Division
  • Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Division

The Goals & Objectives of the SAED Department Include

  1. Sensitize and mobilize 200, 000 young graduates for skill acquisition annually.
  2. Facilitate the training and mentoring of 100, 000 young graduates in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development for self-reliance annually.
  3. Promote public-private partnership for entrepreneurship development and self-reliance among Nigerian youths.
  4. Promote documentation and sharing of best practices on youth empowerment in Nigeria.
  5. Support evidence-driven advocacy efforts for favorable policies on youth empowerment in Nigeria.
  6. Sensitization and mobilization of corps members for enrollment into the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development program.
  7. Development of a standard curriculum for the in-camp skill acquisition exercise.
  8. Identification of organizations at state level to provide training and mentoring in specific skills sets.
  9. Attachment of the corps members to the various organizations for skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
  10.  On-going monitoring and supervision of trainee corps members.
  11.  Facilitate access to available funding opportunities.
